Some of the finest coastal walking in Wales is to be found around Swansea Bay and Gower. From the spectacular section between Margam and Briton Ferry which takes to the hills (with some tough climbing) and gives you almost a bird’s eye view of Gower – to Gower itself where almost every type of coastal scenery can be witnessed.
The greatest concentration of spectacular waterfalls in a small area is to be found in the area bounding the beautiful Vale of Neath. Some are fairly easy to get to such as Aberdulais (X58 route), situated in the National Trust attraction or Melincourt (X55 route), a short though steep walk from the bus stop (X55 route). Further up the valleys, Scŵd Gwladus (X55 route) is an easy walk from the Pontneddfechan Angel Inn bus stop whilst probably the most attractive waterfall, Henrhyd (X58 route), is a kilometre walk (steep in places) from Coelbren bus stop.
For the more determined, see the Rivers’ Hepste and Mellte falls, a good half days’ walk from the Pontneddfechan terminus stop (X55 route) takes in Scŵd-yr-Eira (where you can walk behind the fall!) and the three consecutive Clun-Gwyn Falls.
Look out for news of how you can have an adventure journey and visit four waterfalls in one day using the bus!
For a day out with a difference, there are two exotic local bus journeys you can make in Gower and walk back along the beautiful coast and countryside paths.
The 115 connects Llanmadoc (0903 or 1118), Llangennith (0853 or 1128) & Llanrhidian (0925 or 1145) with Reynoldston, Horton, Port Eynon & Rhossili.
Your outward journey takes you over Gower’s highest point, Cefn Bryn with spectacular views in all directions, seen to great advantage from the bus. Take some refreshment then walk back to your starting point along a coastal or inland path.
The 117 connects Killay (1003 or 1205), Parkmill (1016 or 1221), Penmaen (1019 or 1221) & Nicholaston (1021 or 1223) with Oxwich Bay, Horton & Port Eynon
Your outward journey takes you through the Oxwich National Nature Reserve and skirts the Penrice estate on a road that is so narrow, it needs its ‘slimline’ bus and skilled driver to manoeuvre successfully! Take some refreshment and walk back to your starting point along the coastal path.
